Depending on when you reserve the site and time of year the average nightly rate can vary from $18 to $24. There is good fishing in the lake, better from a boat, and there are two places to rent boats from but I recommend the Detroit Marina. Kane's marina is expensive. There is also the Breitenbush river that comes into the lake where the marina's are from the north and the Santiam feeds in from the east. The bridge over Blowout Road goes right over the Santiam which you'll need to drive over to get to the campground. Both rivers are great for artificial flies and lures. The Campground is gated and closed every night around 10:30pm which keeps the night traffic quieter and opens early. I was against this at first but it makes sense because a lot of party people were drinking in town and coming back late. They are just trying to keep it family friendly and I believe it's working. It's worth the visit. I've been going there for 45 years.

No not free to camp at Hoover campground but the lake usually has stocked trout all summer.
