Go to SSA.gov. Unfortunately there is no "walking in". You must call in for an appointment to see anyone in person at your local office. Except the phone lines to make an appointment is busy 24 hours a day. Yes, I have called at 1:00am and the line is busy. Eventually I got through. But my advice is do it all on line. It's way easier and less waste of your time.
