Being out of state and traveling to Ma soon I planned to stop at the shelter. Are the cats kept in cages or do they have any free time out of them to move around naturally?

Hi Donna, Currently we are open by appointment only. Only those with an appointment are permitted inside the building. Due to COVID, we are not doing any out of state adoptions until further notice. Apologies for the inconvenience. Thanks, NEAS

They're mostly in cages with a few in community rooms. Everything is appointment only now though because of covid.

Only go if you're looking to adopt

A combo of community rooms and cages, depending on needs and space. No drop ins are currently allowed - the front door is locked. Adoptions are by appointment only, after pre-screen and a deposit paid. Appointments also go fast and require a bit of luck. Oh, and there is a long list of banned states - all info on the shelters website

I believe they're in an open room. I'd call and give the shelter a heads up that you're coming though, if you already haven't. The volunteer protocols have changed a lot since covid.
