It was the venue for exhibiting works of art during the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition and for a time after.
The Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District of San Francisco, California, is a monumental structure originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in order to exhibit works of art presented there. Yes they have art there but also its used as a type of convention center in which they put on different types of shows.
In this place they do conduct performing fine arts like ballet shows, theater shows. This could be the reason for the name. As such, there is no paintings, art work gallery.
No not really. The palace is filled with very nice sculptures and the architecture is a master piece. To answer your question, artists can bring their pieces and show them in the gallery room but that isn't usually for the public and not everyday of course.
The time I went, there wasn't any art. But it seems that time to time they put some.
