Kids do swim there, but don't because that stream is runoff from lawns, roofs, gutters, etc and has insecticides and pesticides as well as generally being not clean.

You wouldn't want to. It may look pretty but its street and yard run off water... you know, the water that's in the gutter when people over water... that's why no swimming signs are posted.
