This is typical practice for places that serve alcohol, but I agree that pool should not immediately be associated with drinking. Try the place in Alhambra called "The Cue Ball, Inc", on Main St.
You get asked for your identification at entrance, it's only pool and bar. I'm pretty sure you can't, but never hurts to ask my guy.
