Water fleas are probably the culprit
How much does it cost to go for a day ? Or stay over night do they have tent camping?
There are signs around that there are small stingrays in the water. When you are entering bay water, always shuffle your feet side to side. Disrupting the water will send them scattering away. Sorry to hear you were aware of the rays.
Were they bit or stung? Stingrays will bury themselves in the sand in shallow water, and if stepped on will flip up their tails and sting the person in the leg.
I was bit by some small swiming thing near the shore, but i had no notable bite mark.
