All reservations are handled through Reserve California (previously through Reserve America) and should be made well im advance. You will not likely get through to anyone at the campground. If it is for the day of, you can go straight to the camp kiosk in the morning and request am available site. Yes the sites have a nightly fee.
Reservations are highly suggested as it usually fills up at least six months early. There is a cost per night. That information is located on their website.
