No you can't. If you got free bring a friend gate passes you cannot upgrade them. I have tried this a month ago. I tell you what I did tho. Bring your friend. And look for a regular pass on the ground and use it! However I think that promotion is over tho. As I upgraded mine on the last day they offered it.
