As Ron said, you can throw away a flat screen TV as trash, but a better way of disposing it is through the E-cycle Washington program that takes them for FREE and recycles them. Goodwill stores participate in the program so they can be dropped off there or a number of other locations. Check out the program at ecyclewashington.org.
