Both are used. They make a excellent product. I am on my 3rd year with their pellets. No complaints whatsoever
Like Frank said its a mix of soft wood and hard wood. If you have other options i would go that route. Ive ran many types of pellets and the maine wood pellets are by far the worse ive used
