No camping. If you visit for the day, read each sign in every parking lot. Some lots close at 10:00 pm and have a gate. Some you may stay until 2:00 am. No parking from 2:00 am-4:00 am. Look ip BLM (Bureau of Land Management) maps to see the nearest free places that are open for camping in the United States. We found some in The Cleveland Natl Forest, which is only 1-1.5 hours east down hwy 8. P.S. Some people are sleeping overnight in the Mission Bay area and risking the ticket that may be issued between midnight and 6:00 am. The economy is getting tough for some.
No camping overnight. But you can stay for the day.
