I should've been more clear. Do they put down animals that are not adopted? Is this a "kill" shelter?
Euthanasia is a service offered at the county shelters. Adoptable animals do no have an expiration date and are not euthanized for long term stay or crowding. A dangerous unadoptable animal may be euthanized. A severely injured or sick animal who is likely to die even with medical intervention would very likely be euthanized to end the animal's suffering.
As someone who worked in the animal care field for a decade, I want to clarify that it is important to support kill and no-kill shelters equally. If we throw our support only behind no-kill shelters, fewer animals get adopted from the kill shelters, possibly leading to more dogs having to be put down.
You guys Missed the question. Do they kill adoptable dogs that were brought in as strays or surrendars for time?
Yes they do. You can pay the fee and leave or make an appointment to be with the animal when it is put down.
They do. They are very professional and understanding.
