Simple...there probably are other people that are getting oil changes before you. First come, first serve basis.
First come first served and work ethics are null and void any more so nobody cares to satisfy the customer.

Yes, I understand this first in, first out, but, that's the simple equation. When I ask when will my vehicle be done, I add 1/2 hour for good measure. But there I set for an additional hour. And as I'm looking out at the shop, I usually don't see much activity. But for the price, expecially diesel, it's certainly is worth the wait.
That would be a great question to ask before having that service. It is a first come basis there
