Huh. Good question. Perhaps they made eye contact with you and expected that you would understand the person behind you was in earlier and their equipment was on the bench? I dunno, I'm just spitballing here, because it sounds like you have a question for the only person working, and rather than ask them, you took your question to the public, who have no possible way of knowing the reason.
I have always had a positive experience there. They have typically been friendly and helpful. Sometimes they get busy but that's to be expected. Had you remained there you may have had a different experience.
