When mine went out car overheated frequently
I'm a mechanic You'll either loose coolant out the weep hole or it will growl indicating a bad bearing
Well . I'm not mechanic. Mine on my truck went out recently and the temperature went up and often. It took me about 31/2 hrs to replace it. Easy peasy.
If it's the seal, water will be leaking around the pulley shaft. If it's internal you might hear some noise, grinding or a rub. If it's an overheating problem, could be your thermostat, which is a much cheaper fix. Most overheating problems I've had are coolant level or thermostat related. Check your belt tension also.
