If someone with no experience with forklift operations gets certified is it valuable to get a job using a forklift or do companies hire people and then certify them? Which comes first.

You get certified first but all companies will have you take their own certification test including video and on the machine testing

Thank you for your inquiry Sandra. It is on a case by case basis whether hiring or certification comes first. Norlift cannot guarantee that receiving forklift certification will increase the likelihood of finding employment; however, if you complete our training and certification, you are welcome to state on your résumé that you are certified to operate a forklift and meet OSHA requirements. As other responses have noted, companies will often have their employees complete an in-house safety training with follow up evaluation. Additionally, companies send their employees to Norlift to receive training and certification meeting OSHA requirements.

You are trained to use a lift when you get your cert. Howeber most large companies will give you follow up training. Small companies tend to turn you lose so be honest. It is ultimately your responsibility.
