If you were subscribed to HBO prior to the HBO Max launch on May 27, you would have access to the HBO Max app. After May 27, you would have had to subscribe to HBO Max, not HBO, to be able to access the app.
You should be able to connect your account. However you should call or go into wave to make sure.
