On rare cases they let family stay, if there is a spot, at a discount not free, in that situation. You'll want to talk to case manager at surgeon's office. They also have lists of hotels that give discounts for people in that situation.
I'm fairly certain that the Ronald McDonald House is only for parents of children who require care. I would contact a social worker with the hospital, or possibly a case manager, at least ask around, if there are any options for you. If you can get help through Translink, or another medical transport service, sometimes they have some options as well. Good luck.
