Pearson Airfield is most notable for 3 events: During WWI, it became the site for the Spruce Cut-up Mill providing lumber for the Curtiss JN-4 and the Havilland DH-4 aircraft used during the war. In 1924, this airfield was a landing site for the Douglass World Cruisers in the historic first aerial circumnavigation of the globe. In 1937, while the Soviet Union was attempting the first aerial trans-polar flight, their plane landed here due to an oil leak.
