Hi Raye! The service charge at Tutta Bella was intended to allow both front of house and back of house employees to get extra money from our tip pool. We switched back to regular tipping, no service charge, including for larger parties, a couple months after we introduced the service charge because most customers did not welcome the change. In addition, while courts had previously ruled that tip pools cannot be distributed to non-front of house employees, this rule has been overturned, so now we are happily back to the old system whereby both front of house and back of house non-salaried workers get a portion of a tip pool, rather than a service charge.
Nope not by the slice. Careful though. They have recently been charging a service fee equivalent to a 20% tip and you are expected to pay it even if your service isn't good. Haven't gone back since
