I have never had a problem exchanging in store as long as you have the receipt that came with the package or the email confirmation.

Target, as a major retailer, allows returns of any target purchases (online or in-store) at any target location. Returns must be done with items that have not been opened at their current price, or at their purchased price with a receipt. You may also return opened items that are damaged or defective for a refund or exchange. Opened items without a receipt may be refused.
