Moved out of our house at the end of March. Got an email yesterday from our landlord for 8.5K in charges minus the $2500 damage deposit. So they want us to pay 6ish Grand our of pocket. Is this legal and what do we do?

Did you get a summary of the charges within 20 days of the end of the lease agreement? If not they didn’t fulfill their legal obligation.

No. It's a new owner and he fired his management company right after I moved. I only have a name and number. I talked to him once and he's not followed up or been reachable.

My previous lease expired and I have been renting month to month. I intend to vacate on 3/5 and gave them 21 days notice on 2/12. They are stating I have to pay through 3/31 since I did not give them 20 days notice prior to the end of monthly term.
