No, you can not go to the top of the Lighthouse if you are on a wheelchair. On crutches, it would be hard. There is no elevator
Hi, Thanks for asking, it is a great question. The Keepers House and Visitors Center and Maritime Education Center (with Archaeology lab) and Tin Pickle Gedunk at the St. Augustine Light Station are all Handicapped accessible. There are exhibits and things to see for non-climbers and those using wheel chairs. We also give free admission to wheel chair users to our grounds. We are an historic site and while we do adhere to ADA, we also have to adhere to the 1966 Historic Preservation Act and the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Preservation and Rehabilitation. What this means is that we must maintain the historic fabrics and features that make the six historic buildings here significant. So, there is no elevator in the lighthouse tower itself. We hope you will visit anyway. She is beautiful from up-close and you can explore our other exhibits. I hope this helps. Every visitor is important to our non-profit. Cordially, Kathy A.
