This place is usually packed with drunk college kids - no alligator would dare to show up. It's too risky for alligators here

Linda Taylor | Jul 3, 2019

No there are alligators in the river but they don't come out during the day when people are out. They are more afraid of us!! I've gone here a ton of times & never saw a gator!

While its true, this IS Florida, gators are actually seldomly seen at Ginnie. The water is too cold.

Jack Deen | Jul 3, 2019

There is to much activity. People aren't a food item for the average gator. Most aggressive attacks are territory or protecting young

Dee Thomas | Jul 3, 2019

Its connected to a river. You cant be too sure of an alligator not being in these waters. Its possible...

I would be more afraid of the broken glass bottles than the gators, the college students or the cold water. It's a beautiful place. The spring water is 72 degrees and the heat and humidity makes it a nice refreshing cool down. When you are in the tube, you barely feel the water. The college students are fine with me. Haven't we all been there? Gators are not going to bother you. They hate loud noise. You can kayak there too, can't you?

Alligators are around this is Florida. Keep your eyes open and be aware. Stay where there are other people. Stay out of murky water and don’t go swimming in the late afternoon, evening, nights or real early mornings before there are other people around. Remember momma alligators are protective of their young even before they hatch and are still in their nest. This is mating and nesting time. Biggest thing stay with the crowd and in the clear water so you can keep an eye out. You are no match.

The water being too cold for gators is a myth. They will most definitely use the water way, even for a short amount of time. However, the activity level does keep them at bay.

My understanding is that, as with rhe Ichetucknee, the water is simply roo cold for them.

CW Davis | Jul 3, 2019

The only Gators you have to worry about at Ginnie Springs are the Georgia Bulldog hater types.

Roxanne Fuller | Jul 3, 2019

It's possible, but I've been there 5 times for a full day and I've never seen any alligators.

Michael Schoenly | Jul 3, 2019

The water is very cold so the gators don't like it! :)
