There's large trees by most of the primitive campsites. Should be able to select a site (arrive early!) that'll provide shade in the evening. Some have open canopies you could set up chairs under. Camping in July in Texas is going to be hot days and warm nights wherever you are.
I would not recommend camping at all in texas in july. Witha minimum of mid 80s at night. Its not a good way to cool down after a good day of hiking.
If you plan to camp in July book far in advance, spots go quickly!
Campsites have shade, depending on which site you get. Definitely hot days and warm nights in July, but you can always cool off in the river!
There is not a ton of shade right where the tents are pitched. But there is lots of ahade close by. Some spots have shade close enough to put up a hammock and such but most of the campsites are right next to the Colorado River so it doesnt seem too bad. In July you always run the risk of a warm, humid night. (low to mid 80's) and 100+ degree days. Lots of sunscreen and everyone should be ok but if you're not from Texas then i have heard people say yhe heat is intense.
I enjoyed it. I did the Primitive Camping sites. There is some shade
We just did a trip in July. Very hot, but a good breeze and plenty of shade at our camp site (37). Camping in July just mean drink lots of water, wear sunscreen and plan on swimming everyday. Spicewood spring trail has an amazing swimming hole that will cool you right down.
Remember the mosquitos, ...
With the terrain, that is hard to answer. I do remember seeing shaded campsites but in the Texas heat and in July, it will still be hot. Good luck, def worth the trip with the family!
