We stayed at space#15. There is a picnic table there and an underground bbq pit. We used a Coleman stove for cooking. I did see other campers use the bbq pit. Bring your own charcoal and wood...
From their website: Sites 35-47 are approximately 75-100 yards from the river and have a picnic table, fire ring with cooking grill, and a lantern holder.
The campsite have the typical on ground fire rings. They are just OK for grilling but not really BBQ pits at all. Bring your own equipment if you want wood smoked BBQ. Planning on propane and soaked wood chips are a good option for smoking here, as fires are often banned. Ritters BBQ restaurant in Lometa that is open Friday lunch and evening and Saturday for lunch. You could just get some to go for dinner at camp.
Was told that wood used for the fire ring has to be bought from the park, is that true or can you just buy your own wood from somewhere else?
When we were there, a couple months ago, there was a burn ban. All cooking had to be propane. Check their website or call.
If you are looking for bbq restaurants you have to drive into Lampassas. There are some grills in the park.
You would need to bring a propane grill. There's a fire ban. Always call the park hotline to see if there's a fire ban. Have fun at one of the hidden gems of Tx.
