If you want to see the Indian Summer foliage now is the time. Call first to make sure the trails are open. Then be there at opening time. They only allow so many visitors per day.
Now. If you Google "Lost Maples foliage report" you'll see that the leaves are changing color now.
For me the best time is Fall.
Now! Leaves are changing and the temperature is perfect. We were just there and it got below 30 at night. So, be prepared.

When is the best time to go to Lost Maples? Well that kind of depends on your own personal desires. I enjoy hiking in the park most during the cooler months from October through April. The park itself is in a little spot that tends to be cooler than the surrounding hill country so it's not bad in the summer either. It's also nice to splash in the water during the summer. The fireflies are out and make the evening enjoyable from late spring through summer and the autumn colors are beautiful. So take your pick.
