The parking is for short term not size specified. The parking that "assigned" for the trail is on the campus parking, so students not always care about the dogs and their owners cars

Winter Island is a better spot as there is a great deal of construction at the park plus Pioneer Village is a busy spot during October.

No the best place for that is winter island. A lot of people park their RV there and it's a easy walk to downtown Salem. Plus you will have beautiful views of the ocean. Good luck
