Yes swimming in the lake is ok. I preferred the river the moving water was fun to float in.
You can swim in the lake. The top layer of water is warm (fed by a warm spring), but everything deeper than the top foot of water is very cool. It is easiest to get in and out of the water from the ladder coming down off of the pier, but people sometimes get in around the shoreline as well. swimming is also allowed in the river, but I find the river a little bit shallow and there aren't a lot of good clean beaches to hang out on. I prefer swimming in the pond.
The pond has a dock or sturdy swim ladder entry'Á and a floating dock for swimmers in the middle. The lake is turbid (muddy-milky) and hot. The San Marcos River has difficult access but is refreshing.
Yeah swimming is allowed in the San Marcos River
There is definitely areas to swim at Palmetto.
