There has been only one major accident, and they were able to walk away unharmed. It was the driver's fault as it was a 8 year old in an adult cart who thought it was a good idea to floor it towards the barriers. As long as the safety requirements are met and all appropriate "gear" worn, it is very safe.
I believe it's pretty safe. You're strapped into the seat with a 4 point harness, and wear a motorcycle helmet. The track wall are plastic barriers, that aren't fixed to the floor. So they slide if you hit them.
Hmmm, well....depends on your driving skills I suppose. You are required to wear helmets and seatbelts. They provide the helmets.
