it sounds like the gates are closed right now, but I am confused, does that add on like 3 miles or 10 miles to the hike?

It adds just over 3 miles round-trip.

My tracker measured it as an extra 1.6 miles from the gate to the trailhead parking lot.

I went the wrong entrance from Spanish fork and it seemed like another 3 miles for us. I do believe there is another way to the trail head that is only about a mile and a half... enjoy its beautiful this time a year!!

Gates are closed but it only adds an extra mile or so.
