I think you should go in mid morning during the winter. You don't want to be on the trail when it's dark. The hike is moderately strenuous, so make sure to cardiologist is okay with it.
Difficulty is dependent on your personal level of experience. Its just about 800 feet elevation gain (not 8k someone was reporting) and 5 miles total. If there is snow it increases the difficulty and if the road is closed it increases the length (considerably). Like everyone else i would recommend consulting with your physician and taking it easy, its not about the destination so have fun and be safe.
Although it's an easy enough path, it's a steady up hill grade (at about 8k feet elevation) to get there if I'm remembering right, so you'll have to definitely take it slow. It was grueling at midday, late August, with no health issues except being out of shape...but the inviting hot pools next to the cool stream in the summer heat were definitely worth it! And the walk back to the car was all downhill, easy, and enjoyable. You'll leave feeling refreshed!
If you knowingly have heart issues, it would be best to consult with your primary care physician before planning any strenuous exercise. Additionally don't do this alone, always practice safe hiking, take a buddy and don't separate.
It's a very long hike. Starting morning on winter and evening on summer is best time.
Go slow its not too difficult but it was a long walk.
