I agree with the above people, however you can get about halfway up Steven's Gulch with a sedan and park on the side and begin your hike there. The road is surprisingly wide.
Sedan with an average ground clearance of 5 or 6 is virtually useless in this road. Awd suv with clearance of 8+ inch can do it given experience and proper visibility which is very hard first thing in the morning. However for a High clearance truck or suv with 4×4 this is cake walk. But as I said awd suv should make should you drive carefully avoiding potholes.
No, this year a regular car can't make it up the road without risking, potentially serious, damage. Not only would you bottom out, but could potentially get stuck. 4wd is necessary this year, high clearance is also recommended, i.e., AWD Subarus/Trucks/SUVs aren't good enough.
Do a pick up truck the SUV will even struggle a bit with the road, it is very much worth it.
