We went at 3 pm on a Tuesday and parked up front. No waiting. It's worth the wait plus they have 3 peacocks which are entertaining.
Most sre gone by 7 or 8 so parking closer starts to open up, however its very much hit or miss and its a very populsr attraction

We went on a weeknight at dusk. No wait and git right in.
On the weekends it can take 2 hours just to park. Then there's the wait to pay admission. They recommend going during the week if you can.
On an average visit to the gardens no but the holiday lights..big events can be a while. Cars can be lined down the road for miles waiting to get in if you wait til late to go for the lights
