Check reservation system. It is accurate. Even if you have reservation, the actual campsite is on first come, select the one you like, get it basis.

San Simeon State Beach has a nice primitive camping area. I haven't camped there in a few years but it looks like some improvements have been made in recent drive bys... it's probably first come first serve but it's best to call and see if you can get a reservation.
