I know swimming is not allowed at Shabbonah Lake. Are there any places nearby that we could take the kids and dog to swim if it gets too hot during our week long stay?

No dogs allowed here but if just the family, try Raging Waves in Yorkville. It's a bit of a drive but well worth it. https://www.ragingwaves.com

I always swim with my dog at Lake Michigan. Most beaches allow dogs.
