I went through there on the 3rd of September still green.
A month ago they were very green and gorgeous when we were up there. I would think they are starting to change color by now and are probably pretty pretty. Now through mid October is probably a really good time to see the colors of fall. Its getting cold faster than usual so they may drop the leaves earlier this year. Its definitely worth the drive if you can do it :)
