Great Place to go to get rid of junk. People are friendly and if you go on weekdays there is usually never a line. Saturdays are super busy, so just expect to wait in line on a Saturday most times.

I like this center. I wish there were more ways in Emmet county to redistribute items. It would be nice if the center had a way to facilitate the exchange of items that still might be useful, but I realize that’s asking a lot. I feel I’m charged a fair price at this center, and they offer quite a few recycling services.

This place is awesome! They take kitchen food scrap compost, computers, misc electronics, and a lot of other waste. The front gate workers are cheerful and helpful.

We are so fortunate to have this professional facility available to us. The expense to dispose of refuse is more than any of us wish to spend to get rid of garbage, but when one considers how much more we would have to pay if we had to pay for all of the recyclables as well, we should consider ourselves fortunate. Recycling drop off sites are available throughout the county to avoid having to go to the center and to enable us to avoid the lines. Many places don't have the recycling option and it all goes to the landfill...so sad. Our facility is clean, organized, and if an employee happens to have an off day, ....well don't we all? I, for one, appreciate that our county has a top nkotch facility.

If it is metal, we'll accept it at our Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center for free as scrap metal. If it is fiberglass we can take it as garbage for $29/cubic yard plus fuel surcharge (varies monthly but usually around $1.50/cubic yard).
Thanks for asking! Over the recent extended period of extreme weather, ~ heavy, blowing, and drifting snows; ~ windchill warnings; and ~ icy rains disrupted curbside service. To prevent accidents and/or frostbite, we had to take the trucks off the roads mid-day or cancel a day’s routes entirely. When a holiday falls on or before your collection day, everyone's service is bumped one day later the rest of the week. To make up the routes after a weather issue would require either running two sets of routes in one day--which we are not equipped or staffed to do--or confusing customers for the entire week. So, if your recyclables are not picked up during extreme weather, please: > hold on to them and set them back out on your usual collection day the next week (it's okay to use cardboard boxes or storage totes to set out in, in addition to your cart and totes), or > take some your recyclables to one of the Drop-off Sites when the weather has improved. Thank you for recycling with us!
Thanks for asking! If a MAJOR holiday falls on or before your curbside recycling collection day, then your recyclables will be picked up one day later that week. (Friday customers are then served on Saturdays.) This applies ONLY to > New Years Day > Memorial Day > Independence Day > Labor Day > Thanksgiving > Christmas
We are not currently accepting clothes for reuse or recycling due to lack of real markets. If you wish to dispose of clothing not clean enough or stylish enough for local resale stores, we do accept it for landfilling.
If recyclable (cleanish and dry) then double mattresses and box springs are $18 per piece. If they must be landfilled, it is more like $32.00 per piece. Metal bed frames are recylcable for free. Wooden furniture is $32.00/cubic yard.
Yes, we do. For complete info, David Lomasney has given you just exactly the right instructions! (Thank you D.L.!) Here's a link: https://www.emmetrecycling.org/what-to-do-with/electronics-batteries-and-bulbs/#electronics
Yes they do but not sure about the fees
Yes
No to picking up any scrap or purchasing. Facility is for recycling or disposing what you got.
Brad Kilpatrick is correct: we can accept it at the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center. There is no charge and it goes on the Scrap Metal pile. When you stop at the Gatehouse, the attendant can point you in the right direction if you are not familiar with the bulky materials area of the facility (with the green arches).
Hi, the 30 yd bags are $2.50 each. Hope that helps!
No we do not
Yes. We take it both for recycling (to replace gravel) for $16/cyd and to be landfilled for approx. $32/cyd, the later if it is contaminated in some way or mixed with other materials. Prices are subject to change without notice here.
Yes, we accept them as scrap metal at the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center at no cost.
LATEX: the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center accepts latex paints for recycling April 1-November 1 annually. There is a $2 fee. OIL-BASED: Oil-based paints are accepted only by appointment on our Household Chemical Drop-off Days. Because oil-based paints are quite hazardous, we cover the cost of disposal ($1/pound) for Emmet County residents. Visit EmmetRecycling.org and search on "paints" for more details.
Thanks for asking! If they are from a Emmet County household, we accept fluorescent light bulbs (both tubes and the spiral "compact" ones) at no charge. There are fees for bulbs from businesses and residents of other counties. We charge our cost and there are several categories of bulbs at different prices, so please call if you are bringing bulbs from business or another county.
Yes they do they recycle refrigerators air-conditioners stoves ovens dryers and washers
After all your hard work cutting the boxes down to the size necessary to fit into our curbside trucks (thank you!), I am sorry to say that 75 moving boxes are more than we can pick up curbside at one time. You have two options for recycling them: Curbside: set out a cart-full (loosely) of the pieces each week until they are gone. Drop-site: there is a Recycling Drop-off Site near you in Bear Creek Crossings (the plaza with Lowe's, visible from Hwy 131. We have Large Cardboard bins there that will easily accommodate your boxes. For future reference, anytime you have really large boxes, the easiest recycling option is to take them to the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center (7363 Pleasantview Road, Harbor Springs) where we have collection areas where it is easy to unload any size box, no cutting necessary. The Center is open 8-4 weekdays and 8-3 Saturdays.
We take furniture to be landfilled. If it is usable, we suggest donating it to the Habitat for Humanity Restore. The Restore is 3 minutes down the road from the Drop-off Center, at the back of the mall just east of the corner of Pleasantview Road and M-119.
We charge by the box--based on the size of a small banker's box/copy paper case. The fee is $6 per box.
Yes! Depending on the condition, we can take them for recycling or as garbage. For details visit: https://www.emmetrecycling.org/what-can-i-do-with/mattresses-springs-and-futons/
Yes. You can drop off clothing, bedding, shoes, and purses/backpacks at the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center anytime we are open. Clean and dry, please.
