An unexpected surprise. An awesome 1.2 mile level loop trail/boardwalk with great views of Lake Michigan and incredibly thick wetland woods. Well maintained. A must visit

Hidden gem! When you see the sign off M-119 and are hesitant to stop here before your journey through the tunnel of trees just north... stop and take the left! Lovely and easy hike along a beautifully maintained, level, SHORT hiking path through a wooded preserve, ending at a rocky and picturesque beach. Pure Michigan!

Very nice small reserve that's clearly well cared for. They ask that you don't touch anything or go off the trail to help preserve it and to help maintain high erosion areas.

The preserve does not allow for camping. Its a quite small area, you can easily cover it in about an hour. Paths are narrow but very nice.

What (who?) is Thorne Swift nature preserve named after?

"In 1981, Elizabeth Kennedy donated the Thorne Swift property to Little Traverse Conservancy. The Conservancy leases the property to West Traverse Township as a nature park" Not quite the answer, but thats what is listed on their website.
