I was up there last April, 3 weeks walking dogs while my family returned to Europe. It's a great Beach. Everyone is correct, the gates closed at sunset, but once in a while, and there was still snow when I was up there some days, if you parked at the top where there's a public restroom, there's a path that will take you down to the beach. They were right the access road can get slippery! And whether you're allowed to be on there early in the morning or late at night, no one ever said anyting. I guess as long as you're behaving yourself! Maine is an amazing place, that was my first time there. I hope you get to Sandy Point get to experience it.

Yes. Just about any time of year except for winter, I believe. I have been to Sandy Point as late/early as 2 or 3 AM, but the road is sometimes closed when there's too much snow. If you plan on going to Sandy Point during winter, be sure to bring an AWD vehicle.
