If they wont allow it you can drive south for a few miles along the west shore and get into national forest where you can camp legally
LOTS of good camping in campgrounds along the lake or find a FS road for primitive camping. I kind of doubt they would hassle you in parking lot though.
I doubt it; better make sure before you make plans to camp.
