Last weekend fees where waived but otherwise yes you pay as you go or get a recreational passport
I'm from Illinois. The first time when I was was weekend I paid 10$ ,second time was Monday paid nothing 🙃
No fees if you have the Michigan State Parks Recreation Passport. If you're in state, it's only $10 to add it onto your yearly registration.

You need a park pass they are fairly cheap it was $9 for 1 day for an out of state pass
