Erosion. The sand was eroding and getting close to the original spot, so they moved it farther inland.

They literally put it on a bunch of rollers (like metal with wheels in it). They have lots of pictures and stories of them moving it in the museum next to the lighthouse, in one of the old lighthouse keepers' houses. They actually have a roller there that you can see and it's really cool!
