You can park at Smoky Mountain Institute and go above rec center and follow trail that says To Falls. One mile one way. This is a steep trail that is exposed so be careful long drops. To get near the falls requires some bouldering up and down rocks that can be slick. Please use caution with kids and inexperienced hiking/bouldering skills. The other way is to park in a designated pull off near the falls (not on gravel road) and ford the river then you have to boulder up a bunch of slick rocks to falls. Crossing the river can be dangerous because the underwater rocks are slick and a treacherous rapid is right down river. Please exercise extreme caution either way in my opinion
You can drive to bottom of falls and cross river on foot and climb up the lower falls. I would say you need to be in pretty good shape to go that way. To hike the trail to the falls is a pretty good hike. Short but a solid medium on difficulty.
There is no parking at the falls itself. Getting to the falls requires a 1 mike hike.
You have to hike to the falls about a mile in. You drive along the river to Tremont which is very pretty if you can't hike and there are pull offs frequently
Crossing the river to the falls can only be done when. the river is low and can be. That path can be dangerous but there is a trail that will lead you back to the falls nereby. This water fall is not on the park maps fyi.
It is a steep and beautiful hike to the falls from the parking by treemont. Avoid on weekends if you are looking for solitude.
