Hi - I'm a ranger here at the Oregon Caves - and it is possible everyday spring through early November to buy walk up tickets. In the summer, it can get busy early in the afternoon and wait times can get to be up to two hours, so it is a good idea to reserve up to one day ahead of time if you can: recreation.gov. Long wait times generally happen between 12:00 and 4:00. Arriving early will save you time. Also, during the summer months you can buy tickets in Cave Junction at the Illinois Valley Visitor Center ahead of time, which can save you about one hour of wait time for a tour. Most of our tours are for everyone, but we do have special tours especially for kids and families, a candlelight tour, and an off trail wild caving adventure tour. Visit: www.nps.gov/orca
It really depends on how busy the day will become, meaning weekends and holidays are usually booked pretty solid. Off peak, you've got a good shot if you arrive earlier (than later) in the day.
I reserved and got there early. We were able to bump up to an earlier tour, which was great for us. It's a road with a lot of twists and turns, take your time.
What time do tours start in the morning?
We get real busy up at the Caves. If you show up early, you should be ok. I work at the Chateau so am not sure if they do reservations for the cave tours. They have a candlelight tour in the evenings too.
Show UP EARLY AND HAVE A GREAT TIME TAKE IN ALL THAT YOU WILL SEE . I USE TO LIVE A FEW MILES FROM THE CAVES I LOVED IT
I get there early no reservation. Saw the cave and nature walk. Get breakfast/lunch togo. Salmon sandwich and rhubarb pie awesome. Be careful on the drive up and it takes so time.
If you are on the first tour you should be fine since yiu cant make reservations its only first come first serve. Get their early and you can also eat breakfast there as well
