Passes are only required on the weekends and holidays. It's open sunrise to sunset all other days, no pass needed and plenty of parking.
You have to buy a pass online, $8, and there is plenty of space in the paved parking and there is non-paved overflow parking as well. We arrived at 8:30 and there were approximately 30 cars.
