I really love this park. It has an amazing view and an awesome skate park. Besides the bike trails and hiking paths. Excellent place to take the family and they host a lot of events for the community.

Peaceful place, good for hikes (steep but not too difficult), prayer and meditation, lots of space for parking, has restrooms, skatepark is adjacent, can recommend

Beautiful views of the ravine and mountains! I started my hike from here!

Good hiking trails located above American river. Skatepark was not open but it looks like it has some good bowls and street style options. Unfortunately it was smoky from fires in Tahoe area.

Questions & Answers

How crowded is it on Sunday afternoons?

Overlook park isn't bad if there isn't an event. Other areas in Auburn, like the confluence tend to get really packed on weekends.

How steep is terrain? What level walking or hiking? (Easy, moderate, strenuous?)

Just depends which trail you take. Some have steeper sections, others not so much. If you're looking for an easier place to start, try no hands bridge.

What street do you drive down to the water?

There is no where to drive down in a vehicle from the overlook. The roads seen are service roads and closed to POVs. SR 49 will take you to the confluence of the North and Middle forks of the American River. ASRA kiosk and mulitple parking areas. Nearby is China Bar Area access off of Maidu Drive. There is a fee to use (all of ASRA parking is) but it is closed off to vehicles during the off season. All of these areas are open year round to hike, bike and even horses in some locations. Keep devices on Airplane mode to conserve battery. Always take plenty of water even in cool weather.
