A few times a year the sell young chicks of a variety of breeds. The laying varieties are sexed and the meat birds are mixed. Of course, sexing chicks is a bit challenging so occasionally you'll end up with a hen that turns out to be a roo. In general the chicks are very healthy and well taken care of, they also come immunized, so that reduces the risk of disease.
All chickens sold during "chick days", (which are over for 2018), are 1 day old. These include a variety of laying hens of your choice to raise. Average age is 20 weeks old to begin laying.
