You can use a shovel, but you can't use anything that will destroy it. It is approximately a mile past the state park camping ground. It'll be on your left side of the road. And the road is very rough.

You can dig, but you can also find them right on the ground. The finer gray to white sediment will yeild the most, and it's usually better to try closer to the top.
